DESCRIPTION:For years we have been participants in the Memorial Day Parade.  I will file the initial paperwork with the American Legion for our participation today.\nI need someone to volunteer to be our lead on this item:\nWhat we need is the following:\n\n\nOrganize our meet up (Last two years was early at Carrol Daniel and drive down Green Street to the staging area).\nSet up a group lunch for those who want to participate in a group lunch with a local restaurant.\nShare with participants the rules of the parade (No tossing candy and signage)\nParade is on Monday May 27th.\n\n\nSo\, if you can help\, please let me know.\nI am going to tell the organizers we will be 15 to 20 cars this year.  Application submitted this afternoon!\nGuidelines are as follows:\n\n\n20th Annual Memorial Day Parade \nGainesville – Northeast Georgia \nSponsored by the Paul E. Bolding American Legion Post 7 Date: Monday\, May 27th\, 2024  \nParade Participant Guidelines \n1. Lots open at 7:00 – GET THERE EARLY \n2. Be in place no later than 8:15 am – Streets will be blocked at 8:30 am \n3. We are requiring all entries to either include or honor a Veteran. This will be done with signs or posters recognizing the Veteran and same information on application. \n4. Walkers in the parade: (Including band members and all groups\, including children): If you are walking in the parade you must park your vehicle elsewhere and walk in. Parents – you may not drive your personal vehicle in the staging areas to drop children off that are walking with a group. You need to  turn onto Holly Drive to drop someone off. No Dropping off Walkers in staging areas!!! \nVehicles actually in the parade will be parked at the First Baptist Church or at the Civic Center – an email will  be sent to you that will include your assigned parking lot\, with numbers and directions. \n5. Band Members: Park in the parking deck at the corner of Spring St and EE Butler. (This is at the end of  the parade route so you will finish where you parked.) \n6. For Safety – do not throw candy from vehicles – have walkers pass the candy out. This is per City of Gainesville Ordinance. \n7. Keep your staging area clean\, do not leave trash! \n8. Allow 5-10 yards between vehicles or participants \n9. Performers – take no longer than 30 seconds each performance – no more than 3 performances \n10. Stay in your assigned sequence \n11. Car Clubs – we require a list of names and model of vehicle members will be driving. \n13. Entries are asked to be courteous to the volunteers that work to make the parade happen. Above all – remember the Veterans we are honoring!

DESCRIPTION:Dahlonega Car Club is having their annual show from 10 AM to 3 PM at 150 Courthouse Hill. \nIf you are going to participate in this show please let Fred know (fletchfb@bellsouth.net) and RSVP on the website once posted.. We will meet up at 7:45 AM at the Carrol Daniel Building and leave for the show at 8:15 AM. By arriving as a group\, we can most likely park as a group. \nAdditional info from Fred and Larry \nSome of us have participated in the 4th of July car show in Dahlonega in the past and had a good time and participated in their parade on the square during the car show. This show and parade was a lot of fun with large crowds and lots of kids. For the past few years participation in the parade was not possible due to changes that were made so we lost interest in this show. \nLarry has been in touch with the organizer of the show and Larry has been assured that parade participation will be possible this year. By looking at the schedule it looks like we can do it on the way home from the show as it begins as the show ends. \n

DESCRIPTION:Georgia Street Rod Association (GSRA) – July 12 – Register by June 2 deadline –  Limited to 150 vehicles. \n\n\nA cruise from Madison GA to Milledgeville GA. Police escort provided on the cruise route. Depart at 9:45 AM. \n\n\nEvent is from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM July 12. \n\n\nThe route will travel on country backroads through scenic Georgia country back roads and small historic towns and will be led by various Sheriffs’ departments to the final destination at the Dogwood Barn. \nUpon arrival at the Dogwood Barn\, lunch will be cooked onsite by Lonnie Smith and will consist of certified organic hamburgers/cheeseburgers (meat will be purchased from the farm) with all the fixings\, chips\, water/tea\, and a dessert. \nThe Dogwood Barn at G5 Ranch is a rustic barn that is situated on over 600 acres of a certified organic working cattle ranch\, which is family-owned and -operated.\nThe Dogwood Barn features more than 7\,500 square feet of temperature-controlled event space that can accommodate 300 guests\, as well as a beautiful outdoor gazebo overlooking the lake. \nLonnie Smith Jr. is the Head Cook and Pit Master for the Championship BBQ team “BUBBA GRILLS”. To date he has competed in over 120 BBQ contests in 11 different states.\nLonnie has won over 550 BBQ awards including 37 Grand Championships and 24 Reserve Championships.\nA large part of his success can be attributed to the Smokers that he builds (bubbagrills.net) that include some of the most efficient reverse flow smokers on the market sold across the world. \nIt’s the US National Car Collector Appreciation Day (NCCAD) per our US GOV. The event will be filmed for TV on several programs to broadcast in the near future.  \n\n\n Proceeds go to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes. (GSYH) \n\n\nIt’s GSRA 2nd annual event. Rain or shine. Open to all makes and models. \n\n\nFree donuts and coffee at the start of the cruise run in Madison GA. \n\n\n $55 per car entry fee. End route is in 7\,500 Sq. Ft. indoor air conditioned ‘Dog Wood Barn’ with a great meal lunch included (for one person) with the entry fee. \n\n\n Price includes one T-shirt – one lunch\, and one goody bag. DESCRIPTION:All\, we are changing the date for the trip to the Ugly Dog Tavern in Cashiers to September 5th. Yes\, we realize we have a meeting that night\, but this date works much better for several club members.  Please RSVP with me via email (and When moved on the calendar there also)! Harry and Vicky have a great scenic route planned and will lead us.  Meet up details will be provided very soon. \n\n\n\nDepart from Bojangles Jefferson GA at 8:00 AM \nExit #137 on I-85 North onto GA-129. Go right at exit and go one block U turn at light to Bojangles on the corner. Two gas stations on opposite corners to fill up. Yes you’ll need close to a full tank round trip. \nWe will do some back roads from Pendergrass GA to near Dillard GA. We should stop at Sky Valley Overlook on NC-246 for photo op. \nWith 2 and probably 3 restroom gas stations pit stops and the Overlook stop for 15 minutes for photo ops it is a 3+ hour drive. Thus the 8:00 AM depart time. \nAfter lunch we can visit Dry Falls and maybe Bridal Veil falls two of the many fantastic NC waterfalls. Dry Falls isn’t too strenuous with concrete paved steps and path walk. Bridal Veil is right at edge of road if any parking spots open. \nWe will go to Ugly Dog in Cashiers NC for lunch which is 18 minutes further from Highlands to Cashiers. Food quality and portions are very good. \nAfter lunch for those who desire we can visit Dry Falls on Hwy 64 E – 4 miles outside downtown Highlands. Fairly easy decent traversing path from parking lot to the waterfall. You can walk behind the waterfall! Not too strenuous to get back up to the cars. Plan is to do waterfalls after lunch for 30-45 minutes before return drive homeward. Vicky and Harry Taylor routed and did this drive in June. Fun to be had. Several roads are very nice curvy for our Corvettes! \nWe will do back roads from Pendergrass GA on GA-82 and GA-323 to get to GA-985 to GA-441. Then GA-197 and GA-76 to get to just south of Dillard GA. Back again on GA-441/23. Then Hwy 246 to Highlands NC.  \nWe should stop at Sky Valley Overlook on NC-246 for photo op. \nOnce at Highlands NC ongoing another 18 miles to Cashiers NC. Perhaps also use backroads instead of main route to Cashiers.

DESCRIPTION:Yes\, we know it’s 5 month’s away but block of hotel rooms at our discount will at some point expire. Joining the museum tour for Friday 2;00 PM will fill up and you won’t be able to join LCU as a group to enter at that time slot if not booked ASAP.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have a great rate of $144 for a one-night room. We would caravan together to go there from Georgia on Friday October 18 morning. Details about that to follow later on.\n\nWe have an invite from a former member of LCU – Bert Nagy – who lives very close to Charlotte NC and is now a member of the Queen City club to come to his home for dinner Friday night October 18. We did that last year and was most enjoyable! Lunch stop on Friday\, and dinner Saturday night will be arranged so if desired you can attend with the group.\n\nBelow is the link for a block of rooms for LCU. We are not sure of the deadline for this price so we suggest you lock in your room now if planning on going. This is the Hampton Inn we stayed at last year. Great place and a great host. DESCRIPTION:All\,\n\nOur annual support of the community is the Salvation Army Toy Run in November.  This has been a LCU Project for many years.  This year we are having to change the location for lunch associated with the Toy Run.  Please see the following note from our Chairman for this Project\, Mel Beach.  Please RSVP on the website so we can have a count of people to share with the lunch location.\n\n\n\n\nNovember Club Night Out will be our 10th Annual Salvation Army Toy Run.\n\n \n–  Saturday\, November 23\n\n–  We will leave from Academies of Discovery (also known as South Hall Middle\n\n    School) at 10:45. The address is 3215 Poplar Springs Road\, just off Atlanta Hwy –\n\n    turn at Smokehouse BBQ.  Please arrive a little early to sign the NCCC release.\n\n    I will be there by 10:15.\n\n–  Travel to Salvation Army (711 Dorsey Street in Gainesville).  We will enter the lot at\n\n    the 2nd entrance and circle the building.  We will take the toys inside the gym\, take\n\n    pictures\, etc. then head to Shane’s Rib Shack on Spout Springs Road for lunch\n\n  around 11:30.    Please note the new location.  The address is 5877 Spout Springs\n\n  Road in Flowery Branch (exit 12 off I-985).\n\n \nPlease bring new\, unwrapped toys for ages 0 – 12.  Please don’t forget the older kids\, ages 8 – 12.\n\n \nThe Salvation Army is planning to have their Walmart registry again this year.  I will send out the link as soon as it is available.\n\n \nEvent will be held rain or shine.  Please plan to attend even if you do not bring your Corvette.\n\n \nPlease contact Mel Beach with questions.\n\n\nThank you for your continued support of this worthwhile cause in our community.  Let’s make our 10th Toy Run the biggest one yet!\n\n \nMelanie Beach
