SUMMARY:Historic Madison Georgia - Drive Lunch - Explore
DESCRIPTION:Drive outing to Historic Madison Georgia where you will find nearly 100 antebellum homes.   We will start our journey at the Kroger on Spout Springs Rd near Duncan Corner (7380 Spout Springs Rd).  We will meet up at 10:15 – Wheels up at 10:30 to travel to Ricardo’s Kouzzina\, 271 W Washington St\, Madison\, GA for lunch. \nLunch Menu (Subject to change) will be available at the October meeting. At Lunch\, Richard (Son of Ricardo) will present some tidbits about Madison. \nFollowing lunch\, we will move two blocks to the Historic Town Square and wander over to the visitor’s center. Then touring of Madison will be on our own so everyone can go see the items of their interest. \nReturn home will be on your own (Suggest with a buddy if possible.)\, \nA little about Madison GA: \nThe Madison Historic District is one of the largest in the state.   Many of the nearly 100 antebellum homes have been carefully restored. Bonar Hall is one of the first of the grand-style Federal homes built in Madison during the town’s cotton-boom heyday from 1840 to 1860.  There is a lot around the square within walking distance of the square including historical building and neat shops. \nOur drive will almost be only nice back roads through the Georgia countryside.  I think we might have about 1/2 mile on four lane roads. \nPlease RSVP by November 1\, 2025\, so we can give Ricardo’s a good head count for our group. \nRemember when RSVPing if two are going please list first name as John & Jane and Doe as last name (Example) and show the count going as 2.

SUMMARY:Air Base Peachtree City GA
DESCRIPTION:We will take the freeway route on a 90 minute drive and not the scenic backroads (which is almost a 3 hour drive). We will meet up at the closed HARDEE”S next to I-985 on Mundy Mill (Next to Ameris Bank) at 8:30 AM.  We will leave at 9 then drive to Falcon Field with arrival about 10:30. We will spend two hours at Airbase Georgia and then go to a local restaurant Hobnob at 12:30 for Lunch. \nAirbase Georgia comprises a collection of World War II aircraft that are maintained and displayed at various air shows throughout the Southeast. During the scheduled visit\, several aircraft will be undergoing maintenance and recertification; consequently\, maintenance crews and crew chiefs will be available to address inquiries. Additionally\, with some aircraft in maintenance mode\, attendees will have the opportunity to observe operations from an engineering and maintenance standpoint. The facility is located at Falcon Field in Peachtree City. \nWe’re planning to have lunch at Hobnob in Peachtree City\, which is just 4 miles away. A couple of years ago\, the club visited the Hobnob location in Alpharetta and had a great experience. For details\, visit hobnobatlanta.com and select the Peachtree City location. \nI spoke with the curator a former Corvette owner\, and if feasible\, arrangements may be made to position an aircraft for a photograph featuring both our car and the plane. \nhttps://airbasegeorgia.org/ \nAirbase Georgia has been redesigning its display of WWII and aviation artifacts. This does not apply to aircraft\, or our larger items\, such as the Link Trainer\, the B-17 Ball Turret\, and several uniform displays. Provided all the conditions can be met\, the plans include a large open addition to the hangar for our static items (and hopefully visiting exhibits)\, and an interactive display section just inside the entrance. \n

GSRA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes the car hobby in general and is open to everyone. Presently the GSRA has endowed scholarships at South Georgia Technical College and Lanier Technical College\, and supports the veterans\, children\, and the car hobby through multiple car shows and events each year. \nThe Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes – was established to give our state’s most at-risk children the love\, safety\, and stability needed to become mature\, successful adults. Over 60 years ago\, sheriffs of Georgia founded the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes\, a residential care program\, to help children who have been abandoned\, neglected and abused. During the late 1950’s\, Georgia sheriffs became increasingly concerned about the growing number of abandoned\, neglected\, and abused children. They understood it was vital\, not just for the children\, but for our state\, to give these disadvantaged youth the chance to grow up in a loving and secure home environment. When children come to Youth Homes\, they are placed in a family setting and are provided not just with the basics of food\, shelter\, and clothing\, but a safe\, loving\, nurturing environment in which to rebuild their lives and to prepare for a brighter future. House parents continue to instill a strong work ethic in the children\, emphasizing education and training for future success. These values help prepare the children to become mature\, responsible adults who can participate fully and positively in their communities. \nNational Collector Car Appreciation Day – On July 9\, 2010\, the day was officially marked as a nationally recognized celebration where classic cars of the past were brought to life. NCCAD is celebrated annually to raise awareness regarding the importance of automotive restoration as well as the hobby of collecting cars. Restoring and collecting cars plays an essential role in American society since it highlights the lucrative car business that the U.S. has greatly benefited from. The day also includes some of the greatest American cars that have ever been made. So\, on this day\, we show off our car collections\, partake in events where vintage cars are being displayed and glorified. National Collector Car Appreciation Day has been sponsored by the SEMA Action Network (SAN) since 2009 to promote a love for vintage cars that are considered collectors’ items. SAN is basically a partnership between vehicle clubs\, enthusiasts\, and members of the specialty auto parts industry nationwide. The purpose of the partnership is to take all the required necessary steps to promote the hobby of collecting cars. SAN works on creating laws that are favorable for car collectors\, provides a platform for about 36 million vintage car lovers\, and has over 100 publications under its belt. SAN is also responsible for aiding the U.S. Senate in passing a resolution that allowed Collector Car Appreciation Day to be celebrated every year.
